The Spirit of Afua!

Welcome to Planet Afua and the world of cultural arts and entertainment. Afua N'Diaye is a Cultural Arts Innovator that shares her gift of teaching drumming, dance and song to young children and adults. Afua began her career as a dancer at the tender age of 9. Since then she has trained extensively with some of the best dancers in the world including the late great Babatunde Olatunji.

Circle Of Love

I join hands with others in this circle of love. Our Individual needs bring us together as one. My concept of God acknowledges my quest and honors my honest effort.

To the brother sister on my left I wish wisdom, love happiness and peace. To the sister brother on my right I wish wisdom, love happiness and peace. These too I wish for myself.

To those in this circle of love who would see us fail, we invite them to challenge of positive change and total self-love.As I learn to love and rejoin in the miracle of me. It will become easier for me to extend a hand and invite other miracles to join me in a circle of Love, as we heal the hurt of this world, one person at a time. Those words we believe to be true and so it is! Ase! Ase! Ase!

Her diversity in training with teachers from Ghana , Nigeria , Zimbabwe , Senegal , Liberia , NYC, Seattle , Congo , Trinidad-Tobago , California , and Guinea allows her to create and choreograph African movements that spring from her magical ability to stimulate, excite and flow with the rhythms of the drums. The success of this is utterly African!

In the past 30 years, Afua has been an integral part of keeping cultural arts and entertainment vibrant in the Pacific Northwest and abroad. She is dedicated to the community and viewed as a leader of cultural arts. In 1986 she co-founded the Adefua African Music & Dance Company, a company that provides cultural entertainment to the general public. Adefua is known nationally for their gregarious rhythms rooted in African tribal and European court dances presenting traditional West African music, dancing and song.

The beat of the drum is a common thread across all cultures and provides a way in which people can embrace and appreciate African culture through education and performance. In 2000 she became a Washington State Certified therapeutic counselor and in 2002 she received her Certificate of Achievement in Teacher Education. These educational achievements allow her to offer a vessel for every k-12 grade student to experience Africa and utilize edutainment through music, song and dance.

Throughout it all, Afua's main strength comes from her loving family. Her husband Souleymane N'Diaye is currently the director of Taranga, a new formation in Seattle that blends the best of Senegal . Her daughters and son are established and respected performers nationally in the African arts community. The excitement of performing with her family is what keeps Afua healthy, active and connected to today's generation. She has taught at numerous schools over the years and each learning season ends with a public performance allowing the students a chance to experience celebration.

Afua is a devoted and licensed foster parent but she is also known throughout the Pacific Northwest as Mama Afua for the love, care and blessings she has bestowed amongst many young people and families with her nurturing ways.

The drum beats….the music rolls and the dance flows! Awaken your spirit and experience Planet Afua. The planet where African music and dance magically stimulates excites and soothes your soul, while maintaining a unique quality that is pure African culture.
